Plum Metallic Plaster in Powder Bath
Funny thing about powder bathes, they look so small but take as long as a standard room. I just finished an elegant powder bathroom for a wonderful client in Dallas. She wanted purple in this room, which isn't a typical color choice so I had to really work at getting the right colors by tinting and using various products to get the results we were looking for. First plaster I chose had a silver undertone, second a gold, third did not have the right consistency, fourth was just too blah, finally ended up using a product called Shimmer Suade. I chose the base color and hand tinted the rest to get the right hue. My client chose a gold and plum sample. It took me six steps to complete- proper prep work, base coat, then 3 layers of plaster. It came out very elegant and best of all- tasteful.

New Old World Wall Finish
There are new products that out perform joint compound, paint and glazes(JCPG) in many ways. 1. They are much more durable that JCPG. The new plasters use thick acrylic polymers that give it an almost concrete strength. 2. They can be tinted throughout. This means no more white scrapes when you accidentally run a table or chair against the wall or my favorite jr runs his toy car across the wall. 3. The look is more authentic. Rather than the typical shiny finish JCPG gives you why not try a matte aged wall the kind you would typically find in a true Tuscan village. So now you have your Tuscan villa why not go to another region of Italy? Lets visit Pompeii. With it's richness and history this area of Italy carries with it it's own richness and character. The artists of that region had their own style and what we have come to love about that region. Their historical buildings have a different look altogether than what you find in Tuscania. Faux Real has recreated the rich finishes and can be placed in homes and businesses. The layers of color aged in strategic places make this New Old World finish a beautiful option in your old world decor.

Decorative of April 08
This month's finish is called--
**Inganno Fresco**
Inganno Fresco is a smooth or slightly textured finish made to mimic the fresco's of pompeii. It is an authentic Italian finish and can be incorporated in any design project. My client liked the unique look of my sample board and chose the exact colors. This finish is also great for art panels and decorative niches. If your customer wants an Old World finish but is not wanting a skip trowel painted faux finish then this is the perfect choice. Wednesday, January 30, 2008
Decorative Finish of January 08.htm
Decorative Finish for January
This month’s decorative finish is
Strange Rasa Calce
Strange Rasa Calce is an authentic lime stone and marble Italian plaster applied in three coats over the wall to create an old world finish that is out of this world!
Don’t be fooled by the name, there’s nothing strange about it. This custom finish is a Faux Real signature finish. In
The finish isn't like any other texture finish; the look is more like an aged stone look. Both plasters come in a putty form but harden in a few hours. The cool thing about Italian Venetian plaster is after 21 days the finish calcifies back to a slab of stone. It is not only hard and durable it has all the positive attributes that authentic lime plasters give you: Mold resistant, dust mite resistant, regulates temperature and humidity, and is hypo-allergenic. The finish is protected by a tinted wax used to age the finish.
The brick fireplace in this project had several coats of paint through out the years that never seemed to give it any life. Instead of paying the high cost of tearing down the brick, paying for custom stone mantle, installation, and the big mess; TAID designer Laure Pierron chose Steve Olvera (Faux Real master applicator) to reface the bricks with Italian Venetian plaster. In the end the look and fee is more than she could have imagined. A stunning luxurious masterpiece now covers the 80’s retro brick fireplace. And her clients ecstatic!
Fireplace resurfacing is the cost effective alternative and truly changes the environment of any home and most Faux Real finishes can decorate the surface.
This finish is perfect for the individual who wishes to have a distinct decorative finish that is the best of both worlds. To see a sample up close give Steve a call to schedule an appointment 972-971-FAUX (3289). Also you can see more great finishes by visiting http://iluvfauxreal.com/.
Special thanks to Laure Pierron, TAID for choosing Faux Real in this project.

Decorative Finish for October
This months decorative finish is Stucco Lugano
Stucco Lugano is our version of distressed Marmorino or just Marmorino. The finish can be 1-4 colors dependent on how it is applied and can have same colors different tones, and opposing colors. The finish is very durable. I have this finish in my office and whenever I show it to my clients and designers I drag my finger nail over the surface for several minutes to show the durability of the finish. Try that on any faux finish or on any other distressed marmorino. If it isn't able to endure the abuse then your only getting an inferior product.
Marmorino has a deep history in Italy. If you look at familiar pictures of Venice you can see buildings with Marmorino on the external facade applied in the traditional Italian method. But here in the U.S. we like drama and like to get the most of what we are paying for and that is why Stucco Lugano is such a popular finish.
The finish isn't like any texture finish like most people have in their homes. What I usually see is joint compound skip trowelled then painted over and faux finished. While this can be a nice looking finish if done correctly it is in most homes today. If your wanting to distinguish your work from the rest then Stucco Lugano is a good option.
It is not only hard and durable it has all the positive attributes that authentic lime plasters give you: Mold resistant, dust mite resistant, regulates temperature and humidity, and is hypo-allergenic.
